Welcome

Mission

“Thirty-fifth Street School prepares students to successfully transition from one level of schooling to the next, and from school to career in a safe, positive learning environment. We provide our students with research proven educational methods in reading, math, language arts, science and social studies which align with the K-12 academic standards and Grade Level Expectations. The Thirty-fifth Street School community consists of students, staff, parents, community members and leaders working together to provide a nurturing, responsive, brain compatible educational setting with a focus on health and wellness. Thirty-fifth Street School students are expected to be active participants in their own learning through questioning, investigating, exploring, validating and discussing the world in which they live.”

Vision

“The vision of Thirty-fifth Street School is to provide a quality education to all students and maximize their potential for critical thinking in order to create lifelong learners and productive citizens.”

Dear families, friends and supporters,

As principal of Thirty-fifth Street School, I want to welcome you to our learning family. Located at 35th Street and Hampton Avenue, our school fosters an appreciation for learning in students. Our qualified teachers, strong curriculum and supportive parents and community members motivate children to achieve at high levels. Each learner is treated as an individual with unique strengths, needs and learning styles. Our belief that all students can learn is reflected in the positive attitudes of our students, staff and the inclusive practices that are easily recognizable in our classrooms.

Our strong curriculum bolsters high levels of achievement by integrating all subjects and focusing on the development of technological skills. At Thirty-fifth Street, students realize the value of a solid education in today’s world. With schoolwide writing prompts and reading and math blocks, Thirty-fifth Street students are aware of the standards they are expected to meet. Students have access to a full computer lab and other instructional technology.

Extracurricular activities such as basketball and character-building programs such as the Best Friends/Best Men program afford students the opportunity to hone their natural skills and pursue their personal interests. At Thirty-fifth Street, we encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities as a means of expanding their academic and social education beyond the classroom walls. Our after-school Community Learning Center (CLC) boasts activities for students of all ages and all developmental levels while building a strong connection between Thirty-fifth Street and the surrounding community.

Local organizations play a major role in achieving our vision of maximizing our students’ potential. Ongoing relationships with foundations such as Aurora Health Care, the Boys and Girls’ Club and many more organizations remind our students that community leaders outside of our school also believe in them and want them to succeed. It is our hope that student relationships with mentors outside the classroom will encourage them to continue striving for success as they grow into independent, productive citizens.

In addition to the dedicated staff and community members who support the needs of our students, we also rely strongly on parental involvement. Our Parent Coordinator organizes monthly activities including Parent Training Nights, health and nutrition nights and other academic, social and career related events. Parents are also invited to provide input on our school policies by serving on our governance council. At Thirty-fifth Street, we put forth a strong effort to ensure that parents are given plenty of opportunities to help their child achieve academically and to stay involved in their child’s education.

Our open door policy invites families to visit our school at any time and take note of the fabulous teaching and learning that occurs every day. If you have specific questions or would like to schedule a tour, please contact the school office at (414) 874-5200. I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Rhoda F. Goodwin Jones, Principal
