Parents ![]() Families play an integral role in the development of young children. By working with them at home and supporting their efforts, families give even the youngest of learners the confidence to develop academic and social skills inside and outside the classroom. At 68th Street School, parents/guardians are encouraged to take an active role in their child’s education.
As a year-round school, monthly School Governance Council and Parent School Organization meetings are held at 68th Street to inform families about Title 1 and the school’s Educational Plan. Meetings are usually held in the evenings, to ensure that working parents can attend. Families are involved in planning the goals and activities for a given school year. This plan is reviewed several times a year during meetings, where parents are welcome to provide suggestions for improvement.
In addition to these monthly meetings, Open Houses and Parent Teacher Conferences also take place to ensure that families have every opportunity possible to stay involved in their child’s education. At 68th Street School, we realize the importance of keeping the lines of communication open to ensure a strong support network for the children that attend our school.
Parents are encouraged to help supervise field trips, participate in programs, attend workshops, volunteer in the classroom, tutor students and attend events at 68th Street School. Suggestions and materials are provided on how to help children practice their educational skills at home. Parents of children with special education needs are welcome at all events and will also receive training and support on how to advocate for their children.
