Community Learning Center (CLC)

The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee, along with Milwaukee Recreation, offers an after-school Community Learning Center (CLC) for Burroughs students and their families. Both students and adults have the opportunity to participate in various academic and recreational activities. Extracurricular options include:

  • Academic enrichment, especially in Math and Reading

  • Tutoring assistance

  • Homework help

  • Open gym

  • Competitive sports

  • Social clubs

  • Drama and theater productions

  • African drumming

Trained staff professionals supervise all CLC activities and guide, coach and mentor participants. All students at Burroughs are encouraged to get involved in the CLC and expand their education, talents and abilities. After-school activities allow students to use their time constructively and reinforce key academic skills. Academic enrichment in the Burroughs CLC emphasizes Math and Reading. Students focus on Math lessons for two days and then Reading work (reading aloud and silently, comprehension, writing and vocabulary, to name a few areas) for two days. This pattern continues throughout the year.

For more information regarding the Burroughs CLC Program, please call the school office at (414) 393-3500.
