Welcome to Dr. George Washington Carver Academy, home of the mighty cougars!

Carver Academy’s mission is academic proficiency in all subject areas and strength of character. We focus on student strengths, use assessments to ensure instruction is well received and build student knowledge and skills by providing multiple opportunities for students to achieve inside and outside the classroom. At Carver, we take persistent, consistent approaches to teaching and use research-proven strategies.

Relationships, rigor and relevance are driving principles at Carver Academy. Our students, staff and families work together to create an environment where children are challenged. Our goal is to teach learners who will be active participants in our local and global communities.

Our staff adopts the “whatever it takes” attitudes to reach and motivate students. To ensure that students meet their potential, we focus on a curriculum aligned to Wisconsin State Standards and the MPS Learning Targets. Students are supported through guided instruction, collaborative assignments, independent practice and individual, effective feedback. Daily Reading, Language Arts and Mathematics blocks ensure that students receive a quality education, beginning with simple instruction and progressing to more advanced, in-depth lessons and concepts. Our Literacy Coach and Math Coach enhance the quality of teaching and learning in addition to classes in our Science Lab, African Dance instruction, Physical Education opportunities and Art lessons.

Carver Academy works with our Parent Teacher Association and community organizations to offer extended learning opportunities to students. After-school tutoring is available through the Boys’ and Girls’ Club Learning Center.
