Parents/Families

At Carver Academy, parents and families are respected as valuable members of a child’s educational support network. Combined with the efforts of the school staff, parental support guides students toward academic success and builds self-confidence.

By attending informational meetings, school-sponsored programs and events and Parent Nights, parents and guardians can learn new strategies on reinforcing the education of their children at home. Parent representatives serve as members of the School Council, ensuring their opinions are heard and helping with planning, reviewing and improving Carver’s educational program. In addition, the Title I program provides training sessions on academic standards and assessment throughout the school year, which parents are encouraged to attend. Open Houses and Parent-Teacher Conferences allow parents to meet their child’s teachers and learn more about the teaching and learning that takes place in Carver’s classrooms.

As part of the School-Parent Compact, parents are expected to…

  • Support Carver Academy in the effort to maintain proper discipline.

  • Establish an uninterrupted study time and encourage good study habits at home.

  • Stay aware of what their child is learning.

  • Find out how their child is progressing at school by attending conferences and reviewing school work.

  • Have high expectations for their child as an individual.

  • Help their child learn to resolve conflicts in positive ways.

  • Communicate and work with teachers and school staff to support and challenge their child.

  • Respect school staff and the cultural differences of others.

"There is no shortcut to achievement. Life requires thorough preparation. Veneer isn't worth anything."
