![]() Specialty Programs Carver Academy offers Specialty Programs that benefit students by giving them opportunities to increase their academic success. These programs encourage teachers to implement new strategies in the classroom, giving students the chance to expand their skills and knowledge in unique ways.
P-5 Specialty Program
This program requires staff members to collect monthly classroom-based assessments in a portfolio for each student, in each subject area. Through these portfolios, students, teachers and families are able to track progress and identify both strengths and weaknesses in each student’s learning.
High Scope K5 and 1st Grade Program
The High Scope Program encourages K5 and 1st Grade teachers to attend High Scope meetings monthly and discuss and implement High Scope programming. This includes the Plan-Do-Review model, center-based learning and integrated field trips.
Title I Schoolwide Program
The U.S. government funds the Title I Program and these resources are accessed by Carver Academy. Title I funds are used to provide additional academic support and learning opportunities to help children master challenging curricula and meet state standards.
Mathematics & Science Program
Carver’s Mathematics and Science Program encourages students to study in-depth topics and learn through hands-on, interactive experiences. With a dedicated Mathematics Coach and full-time Science Teacher, students receive the support they need from qualified professionals. These staff members work with classroom teachers to ensure that Math and Science content is explained thoroughly and students are able to grasp even the most difficult concepts. A Science Lab provides students with a space to conduct guided experiments and investigate scientific claims and mathematic problems.
African Dance Program
Carver’s African Dance Program gives students insight on Africa and the African Diaspora through the discipline of dance. During the day, students learn the discipline of dance through an introduction to new vocabulary and participation in a technical class that focuses on preparing the mind and body for movement. Students then learn the relationship between the dances and rhythms of Africa, what they mean and how world events have influenced the dances. Throughout the school year, students perform the dances while accompanied by musicians playing African rhythms and sounds. Carver’s African Dance Program connects academics, arts and an understanding of Africa and African people wherever they have settled. |
