School Governance Council

At Custer High School, students and staff value and rely on the important and supportive role that families play in their student’s education. In an effort to build a strong resource network for students, parents and guardians are encouraged to become active participants in the School Governance Council. The School Governance Council helps make decisions regarding school curriculum, policies and procedures. Parental involvement is valued and input is appreciated. Families are provided with a handbook that includes meeting dates. Meetings include time for families to share experiences, brainstorm about creative programs and participate in decisions regarding education. In addition, School Governance Council meetings provide training and materials that help families understand academic standards and assessments and focus students on graduation.

Regular Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) meetings are also held to allow families to participate in planning, reviewing and improving the educational programs at Custer. The Custer administration facilitates and encourages family participation by addressing challenges to successful family involvement, such as meeting times, types of activities, child care needs, etc.

The Custer administration encourages all families to…

  • Make sure their child attends school regularly and on time.

  • Communicate with teachers and staff in writing, on the phone or in person.

  • Respond to communications sent home (interim reports, report cards, letters, memos).

  • Make sure their student completes homework assignments, studies and reads every day.

  • Attend Parent/Teacher conferences in the fall and the spring.

  • Support school and district discipline policies and rules.
