Anna Frances Doerfler was born on April 24, 1867. Educated in Milwaukee, she became a teacher in 1887, and in 1892 was named the first woman principal in the Milwaukee Public Schools. In 1907, Ms. Doerfler became the Principal of Scott Street School. A new building was erected (our current facility) in 1912, and Ms. Doerfler escorted the entire student body of Scott Street School to their new educational environment. She remained Principal of this building until the time of her death in 1922. In recognition of her dedication as an educator, the school's name was changed to Anna F. Doerfler School later that year.
