"At CCC, we are deeply committed to delivering measurable achievement in learning for students. Part of Milwaukee Public Schools, the Andrew Douglas Community Academy serves 630 students in grades six, seven and eight. As a "School-Wide Title I Project", more than half of the Academy's students come from low-income families.
With targeted practice in the SuccessMaker courseware, students have rapidly increased their performance levels. During the 1998-1999 school year, CAI Teacher Karen Kahn Corlyn tracked the progress of her sixth grade students on SuccessMaker. In only 12 weeks, the sixth graders increased their average level from 3.94 to 5.17, an increase of 1.24 levels. The average expected growth per year in CCC courseware is a 1.0 gain.
Teachers at Andrew Douglas Community Academy have become increasingly sophisticated with their use of SuccessMaker. To fill in knowledge gaps and help students develop a complete understanding of mathematics, they integrate the computer-based courseware with textbooks and classroom instruction. During 1999-2000, they correlated selected strands of CCC's Math Concepts and Skills courseware with the "Connected Mathematics" textbook series by Dale Seymour. By focusing on specific strands related to classroom instruction, students quickly achieved grade level performance on the topic.
The Andrew Douglas Community Academy was nominated for the CCC Honor Roll from among 16,000 schools using CCC courseware. Candidates for the Honor Roll are evaluated on a number of criteria, including usage of SuccessMaker, average gains in SuccessMaker courses, and average gains on state and national standardized tests.
CCC presented the Andrew Douglas Community Academy with a plaque to commemorate their membership in the Honor Roll and their achievements using CCC's award-winning SuccessMaker courseware.
