Rick Aaron

Rick Aaron, a community volunteer and professional musician, treated the students in the CAI (Computer Assisted Instruction) Mathematics Lab to a morning of delightful flute music while teaching that rhythm is actually notated mathematically. Students learned that in order to play music they had to understand the values of fractions. Using the music of Duke Ellington, Mr. Aaron demonstrated how differently notes can sound when first played giving each note just one beat, and then again with the correct beats per note. This was a lesson in mathematics the students will never forget.
