A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Elm Parents and Families,

Thank you very much for visiting the Elm Website! Exciting things are happening at Elm Creative Arts School.

As you may know, we are a city-wide K4 – 5th grade school with an arts focus. All students attend classes in arts integration and visual arts. Students have the option of taking string lessons from K4 – 5th grade and band lessons in 4th and 5th grades. Elm has many Artists-in-Residence each year bringing a variety of arts experiences to our students. This year we welcome the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music as our music partner. Every month parents are invited to watch children on stage performing arts integrated activities they have learned in their classroom. Special evening performances are also part of the Elm Arts Curriculum.

Elm Creative Arts School is labeled a high achieving elementary school! Students work hard during the day in an arts integrated environment to master the Wisconsin Core Standards. Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. Children go on multiple field trips to extend their experiences including the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Urban Ecology Center, the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, etc. Therefore, we collect field trip fees to cover the field trips and classroom fees to cover the special classroom arts experiences.

Parents and families are an important part of the Elm School Family. We welcome parents to be involved in school activities, PTA functions, school governance, field trips and classroom activities. When you come to visit, you will see parents in the hallways, classrooms and in the art gallery helping to make Elm Creative Arts the best school in Milwaukee!

We are involved in the ABCs Collaborative, which partners all the Milwaukee Public Schools Arts Schools to work together as a team. Recently, we have been working toward the completion of our K-12 arts curriculum. Our vision continues to evolve to bring a continuous arts learning experience to the children of Milwaukee.

In conclusion, I welcome you to visit Elm Creative Arts School at 900 W. Walnut St. There is ample parking just east of the building. Come and ring the doorbell! We love to have guests in to see the wonderful and exciting things happening at Elm!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Ruth Maegli
