MPS Learning Targets
In 2003, Milwaukee Public Schools created Learning
Targets for each subject area and grade level. These targets detail what your
child will learn during each year. Parent-teacher conferences provide an
opportunity to discuss the targets and ensure your child is on track. The
teacher can also show you samples of student work so that you can compare
your child’s work to what is expected from a child at his/her grade level.
All schools in MPS work toward the same Learning Targets, which in turn are
aligned with Wisconsin State Standards.

Academics at Engleburg

At
Engleburg Elementary, we believe that the classroom
is the most important place in the school. Each year when creating the School
Improvement Plan, we examine student test results, disciplinary records,
and the annual school climate survey to see where we need to improve. We then
set clear, measurable goals and periodically assess how well we are meeting
each goal.
Meeting
Academic Goals
PBIS Positive Behavioral
Interventions and Supports will be used by all students and staff during the
2011-2012 school year to decrease classroom
disruptions and student suspensions while increasing student
achievement. Please feel free to visit
the MPS PBIS link for more information on this
district-wide initiative.
During the 2011-2012
school year, we will be continuing to implement the MPS
Comprehensive Literacy Plan to strengthen our students reading
skills. Everyday throughout the school
year, reading instruction will revolve around a 90-minute reading block at
all grade levels. This program will provide meaningful instruction in
reading, writing, listening, speaking, language, viewing and literature.
MAP
Assessments will be given at all grade levels throughout the school
year. These tests give teachers and parents information regarding our students progress in
reading and math.
Raz-Kids Students can
practice reading to improve comprehension and reading fluency anywhere with
Internet access. Students can listen to books read aloud, read with
vocabulary and pronunciation assistance, and read many fiction and
nonfiction books independently.
Engleburg School's math curriculum is
guided by student achievement of the Wisconsin Mathematics State Standards
and the Milwaukee Public Schools Learning Targets. Student progress is measured by assessment
of student classroom work through district created rubrics, CABS, and Constructive
Response questions.
