Students at Greenfield School are expected to give their all at school in order to fully develop their academic skills and reach their full potential. Staff members instill a sense of responsibility in all students by setting high, yet attainable, standards. By cooperating with the principal, staff members, their parents and their peers, students learn to respect others. By learning about their community and giving back, they become productive citizens.

When they arrive at Greenfield each day, students are expected to be prepared - both mentally and physically. Not only do they need to bring supplies (i.e. pens, pencils, paper, etc.), but students also need to come with a positive, confident attitude and be ready to learn. Teachers see students as successful and by believing in themselves, children achieve more and overcome challenges to learning.

Greenfield students should know that they have a strong support network standing behind them, encouraging them to do their best. With the school staff, parents and the community, help is always just around the corner. Students should never hesitate to ask for assistance understanding a new concept or solving a complex problem. Greenfield students are the heart of the school - they are the future and make Greenfield the wonderful place it is today!

Students at Greenfield have the added responsibility of using safe online resources to further their education. The educational Web sites listed below help students improve their academic skills and familiarize themselves with technology. Students can use the computers at Greenfield to explore these sites or discover them at home with their families.

Houghton Mifflin’s Education Place allows students to play fun learning games based on the material they learn in school.
At Fact Monster, students can find answers to all the questions they may have. Fact Monster provides an online almanac, dictionary and encyclopedia. It also has information that will help students successfully complete their homework.
NOGGIN, a Nick Jr. Web site, is sponsored by Nickelodeon. NOGGIN is designed for the youngest learners at Greenfield and offers instructional games, videos, a television schedule and printing materials. It also has a page specifically for parents. NOGGIN uses a “connected learning” approach, linking key educational content with experiences children know and love.
At BrainPOP, students can explore an animated educational site, discovering new topics and interesting facts.
The Kaboose Family Network provides families with creative ideas on how to spend time together and celebrate the seasons.
At Funbrain, students can play a variety of educational games.
Soft Schools features worksheets, games and activities to reinforce topics learned during the school day.
At Kids Turn Central, students can laugh, learn and play online.
Learn 4 Good offers a variety of free online games that students can play. Educational games and puzzles enhance learning.
PBS Kids Online allows kids to interact with their favorite television characters. It also provides a variety of pages where children can learn and explore! PBS Kids Online can be accessed at http://www.pbskids.org.
Greenfield students are encouraged to visit any branch of the Milwaukee Public Library and take advantage of all the resources available. They can visit the library online at http://www.mpl.org.

Reading
Scholastic’s Web site, The Stacks, provides educational games and activities for students.
By creating an account with Raz Kids, students can read and listen to stories, take quizzes and learn more about the characters.
At Starfall, students can learn comprehension strategies and enhance their phonics skills. Starfall encourages children to read for enjoyment and provides them with a wide variety of online resources.

Language Arts/Writing
Carol Hurst’s Children’s Literature Site provides a variety of reviews of great books for kids, ideas on how to use these books in the classroom and a collection of books and activities relating to particular subjects, curriculum areas, themes and professional topics.
Parental permission is needed to access Kids’ Space Connection. Kids’ Space Connection is an international meeting place for children and school teachers. Students can communicate with people all around the world. They can also contribute to interesting projects and join a variety of clubs.
Word Central features an online dictionary and games that help children gain familiarity with new words.
