Accelerated Reader is a computer based program used to track children's understanding of a book that was read
by them. The child reads a book from their classroom library, school library, or computer lab and then takes a test on the computer
which calculates their score. Hampton School requires that the child get 80% or higher on the test to be eligible for our five AR
challenges. The challenges, listed below, are free to each student who meets these requirements.
|
Once a year Hampton School has an Accelerated Reader night, which invites parents to participate in this activity.
Parents come to school, sit and read a book, and together with their child, take the Accelerated Reader test. Children
and parents may take as many tests as they want to on that evening.
During Christmas and Easter break, Hampton School sends home an extensive list of Accelerated Reader books that can be
read during our holiday breaks. These books can be found at the local library. We encourage parents to read during the
holiday breaks and keep track of the books that were read. When the child returns after the holiday break, the computer
lab is open every day except Wednesday during DEAR time to take his/her test. |
Children who have read books during DEAR time, free time, or afterschool hours with their parents, can take an accelerated
Reader test and generate points to be used at the AR Store.
