Mission

“In order to prepare students for the 21st century, we will work together to create a community of proficient, high-achieving, problem-solving, lifelong learners. We will do this by communicating, collaborating and cooperating in this rapidly changing technological word.”

Welcome

Dear families and students,

As principal of Oliver Wendell Holmes K-8 School, I want to welcome you to our high-achieving learning community. Located on Milwaukee’s East Side, we are proud to be a multicultural mix of race and ethnicity with a student body population of about 400. The Holmes staff prepares all children for success as our young students develop into self-confident learners. Staff provides students with the tools needed to excel in the classroom and in the real world. Students always come first at Holmes. We encourage them to challenge themselves and set new goals for success. To ensure that our students are getting the most of their education, we focus on a curriculum aligned with Wisconsin State Standards and the MPS Learning Targets.

At Holmes, we recognize the importance of a well-rounded and balanced education. This includes daily academic lessons fused with technological instruction and after-school extracurricular activities. Our wide selection of extracurricular activities features something for everyone, ranging from Basketball to Spanish Club and Cheerleading to Cadets.

Our students also have access to modern technology in each classroom as well as in our computer lab. This allows them to stay connected to the rest of the world. Research and media projects familiarize students with technology, enabling them to use the Internet as a research tool and to develop presentations using computer software. In addition, students can enhance what is learned in the classroom by visiting educational Web sites and using computer programs.

Students should feel confident, safe and comfortable in their learning environment and that is what we strive to achieve at our school. We encourage parents and community members to stand behind our students and support them as they learn who they are and as they achieve personal goals. Knowing they have the support of those around them gives our learners the confidence they need to excel and reach their full potential.

To schedule a tour of Holmes or to ask any questions, please call our office at (414) 267-1300. I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Debra Wallace, Principal
