Information: I am Crystal D. Hernandez. Joining the Rufus King-MYC as a Language A teacher has afforded me a unique opportunity to tweak, expand, and further grow my teaching skills repertoire. My educational philosophy, while undoubtedly focused on academic achievement for all of my students, is also heavily seasoned with social skills and community building. I often tell my students that they can be Einsteins in the classroom (his post-school age years, of course) and still not be successful if they do not practice common courtesy and employ simple social graces. Therefore, the modeling of appropriate social behaviors is regularly implemented in my classroom. I strive to implement the Comprehensive Literacy Program in all of my Language A classes and have met with more success than failure so far. Having a Montessori background, I am right at home with providing students with choices and having a “noisy” classroom. I am happy to report that most of my students seem to both benefit from and appreciate the Language A stations that I create for them.
I hold a B.S. in Education summa cum laude from UW-Milwaukee. Currently, I have also completed half of my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction via online learning. My email address is hernancd@milwaukee.k12.wi.us and my voicemail extension is 65207.
