AlumFest 2009
Perfect weather, fine entertainment, fun with friends and family…

On Sunday, July 26, 2009, more than three hundred King alumni and friends gathered from noon to 5 p.m. on King’s football field for AlumFest 2009, our seventh all-class picnic.
The program at 2 p.m. featured entertainment by the Milwaukee Public Schools Alumni Gospel Choir directed by Arlene Skwierawski and  K.C. Williams.  New members are always welcome.  They rehearse each Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Milwaukee High School of the Arts. Four alumni were honored for their distinguished careers.

Janet C. She retired in 1998 to live in northeastern Washington among trees, mountains, and lakes.  She travelled extensively, visiting every state in America.  She died July 29, 2008, surrounded by friends.

Mr. Behling has received numerous awards including the CIA Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal, the Deputy Director for Science and Technology Slate Award, the National Reconnaissance Office Medal of Distinguished Performance, the Director of Central Intelligence Executive Leadership Award for countering denial and deception, and Senior Executive Service Meritorious Awards.  Now retired from public service, Tom resides in McLean, Virginia and works as a consultant.

Carol Schaefer Broman ’57 and Lois Kuehn ’47 were recognized for the service to the school and to the Alumni Association with Alumni Service Awards.  Both have served on the Alumni Association Board of Directors since in creation in 2003.  Carol has been board president since 2005.  Lois has worked with many classes to find “lost” classmates for their reunions.  The Alumni Association donated books to the Rufus King library in their honor.  Lois chose books on the history of Milwaukee and Carol picked novels by some of  her favorite authors.

The classes of 1959, 1989, and 1999 included AlumFest as part of their reunion weekend.  Classes from the ‘90s celebrated all weekend and then cooked up a storm at the south end of the field.  They were definitely the last to leave.
