Parents

Strong parental involvement is one of the strengths of our school, and membership in the PTSO provides a solid network of resources to facilitate that involvement. Membership is just $5.00 per family; meetings are held monthly in the school library at 6:30 p.m. (click on "PTSO Calendar" above for a list of meetings). To volunteer, click "contact" above.

Alert to Parents for Funding! Print E-mail

If 88% of Rufus King families simply return lunch applications (regardless of whether a family believes it is not eligible), our school will receive additional funding for various programs as well as qualify for universal breakfast for all students!  Presently, we have received 72.3%, falling short of the minimum rate; 417 families still have not submitted applications.  If we don't receive these soon, the minimum rate required climbs to an almost impossible 95%.

Also, students with free/reduced lunch status get considerable discounts on College Application Fees and ACT / SAT Fees.  Please take the time to submit your form to the school TODAY!  Ask your student to pick up a form in the Main Office today!

Minimizing Disruptions Print E-mail

Protect the Learning Environment!

We understand parents' need to be in touch with children and, at times, there is a need to get in touch with them during the school day. Unfortunately we are being inundated with phone calls that require us to interrupt classes when the majority of these messages could have been taken care of in the morning . Please try to take care of pick up times, appointment times and any other information with your child before school so we can respect the most important rooms in our building- the classrooms.

If you must get a message to your child, please call the office, leave the message, and be assured that it will be delivered to him/her by the end of the day.  Please do not ask to have your child pulled out of the classroom unless it is a dire emergency.

Let’s minimize the unnecessary interruptions.

Similarly, be aware that any deliveries for students that are made to school (flowers, balloons, etc.) will be held in the office until the end of the school day.  Students will be asked to pick them up at that time.

Access Grades, Attendance and Assignments Print E-mail
image006.jpgThe Milwaukee Public Schools' online Parent Assistant and Student Assistant allows parents/guardians and students to  attendance, course grades, and standardized test scores – all available instantaneously.  Parents can also update personal and emergency contact information directly online (which is then reviewed and verified by the school).  All information is kept private, and each parent must complete a special application to help guarantee security and privacy of their information.  For parents with multiple students in MPS, all children can be accessed via one PIN number.  Students can use their standard MPS Web login/password. For families who may not have access at home, computers with Internet access are available at public libraries, at school, and many workplaces.

Help Curb Tardiness Print E-mail
We are again making a special effort to improve punctuality to school and classes as statistics indicate a strong correlation between punctuality, good attendance, and good grades.  We elicit your help in making sure that your son/daughter arrives to school promptly and in reinforcing the importance of getting to all classes on time.
