Tyne Turner, a third generation
artist/educator, teaches theatre at Lincoln Center of the Arts, an
arts integrated middle school in Milwaukee Public Schools. She
joined the faculty in 2003 during national service to Americorps,
with the intention of supporting the arts in urban education. She is
one of ten national recipients of an NEA Grant for 2004-2005 for her
innovative theatre program for urban children.
From 1985-2002 she served as a Professor of Voice and Speech for
the University of Minnesota BFA/Guthrie program, Southern Methodist
University/Meadows School of the Arts Theatre Division BFA/MFA
Program, the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee BFA/MFA
Professional Actor Training Program, and the American Academy of
Dramatic Arts.
Ms. Turner has designed the curriculum for, and initially
implemented, three theatre training programs for children - among
them is the highly esteemed First Stage Theatre Academy. She is a
nationally recognized professional voice and speech coach serving
the Utah Shakespearean Festival, Alabama Shakespeare Festival,
Seattle Repertory Theatre, Long Wharf Theatre, Dallas Theatre
Center, and a variety of other professional companies across the
country. She is a twenty-year veteran of Actor's Equity Association
and has performed professionally on a regular basis since 1984.
Ms. Turner holds a BFA from the University of Wisconsin -
Milwaukee Professional Theatre Training Program, a Master
Certificate from Will-O-Way Apprentice Theatre, a 1-8 Education
Certification from the Milwaukee Teacher Education Center, and K-12
Theater Certification from the Wisconsin Department of Public
Instruction. She is published in several professional journals and
has served as a presenter for the Voice and Speech Trainer's
Association, as well as for the Association for Theatre in Higher
Education, Alliance for Wisconsin Theatre Education and the
International Network of Schools for the Advancement of Arts
Education.
