Investigations, our math curriculum
Math classrooms across the U.S. are changing, and changing
drastically. The focus is shifting toward an emphasis on mathematical
reasoning and problem solving. The curriculum program we are using at
Lloyd Street Global Education School is Investigations in Number,
Data, and Space. This program reflects the view that mathematics in
the elementary school is more than arithemtic. It encourages children
to work in small groups as a whole class, and individually. This
curriculum utilizes cubes, blocks, measuring tools, caluclators, and
a variety of other materials that will help students solve problems.
Students must learn to describe, to compare, and to discuss their
approaches using pictures, diagrams and models. Alternative
strategies are valued, multiple strategies are encouraged, and
cummunication about mathematics is central.
Our math curriculum will enable our students to meet and exceed
MPS, state and national goals as they advance through the curriculum.
Science
All our science is hands on, using the scientific method. It is
integrated into other curricular areas. Each grade builds skills
needed for the next grade level. They're introduced in one grade
level and built upon in the next grade level.
Technology
Students become computer literate. They are introduced to and
taught how to do multimedia presentations, research, publishing, etc.
They are becoming ready for the twenty-first Century!
