From the Principal’s Desk:

Welcome to Milwaukee Education Center now located at the Andrew Douglas Complex.  We are now into our third week of classes and the students and staff are doing great!  There are a few glitches which we are in the process of working out but the teachers are teaching and the students are learning.  I am very excited to have our new Technology   Focus for the school and feel that the students will enjoy it and learn a lot with this curriculum.

MEC still has some opening for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.  If you know of any child who needs a school, have the parent contact Ms. Cruz at 875-6422 to reserve a place.

I would like to invite all parents, students and guests to attend our Open House this coming Wednesday, August 19th, beginning at 6:00 pm.  We will be able to show you our new home.  We will have tours of the building, teachers available to show what they are doing, and students’ work available to show what they have done.  I hope to see you all on Wednesday evening.

MEC is always looking for parents/ guardians or other adults to volunteer in our building.  This is one important way to show all our children their importance in our lives.  An hour or two a week can make a huge difference for our children.  We have many areas where you can assist our staff and students.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, stop in the main office to pick up an application.

If your child will be absent, please call our attendance line, 875-6460, to let the office know they will be absent.  This will prevent you receiving an automated call later regarding the absence.

I and the entire staff are here for you and your children.  If you have any questions, concerns or problems, we need to know about them immediately so that we may rectify them.  Come in at any time.  We are here to serve you and our students to the best of our abilities.

LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER

Dear Parents,

Not only is the MEC library in a new space, it has a new face! I’m Mrs. Ferguson the new Library Media Specialist for MEC/WORK/DIAL. Please stop in the library and introduce yourself. If you “cruise” in during Open House, you and your child are welcome to have your pictures taken holding your favorite books. We will have deck chairs, leis and Hawaiian shirts for you to use as props. Sorry, drinks will not be served, but students will get an umbrella straw souvenir while supplies last.

If you have not done so already, PLEASE sign the Textbook and Library book Contract in your student’s welcome packet. Students have already started checking out library books. They may check out up to three library books. Library books are checked out for two weeks. There are no overdue fines. Students are responsible for lost, stolen or damaged books. The original cost of the book is charged to the student’s account.

If you have any questions, please call or email me: (414) 875-6535  voelzsk@milwaukee.k12.wi.us.

Thanks,
