MPS 3 Choice Selection Period
January 9-27, 2012
Candidates for 3rd grade
- 2nd grade teachers may refer students that they believe
would benefit from a greater challenge than they would receive in
a traditional learning environment.
- On occasion, a parent may ask a teacher to refer their
child because they feel that their child's needs are not being met
in their current school
- Golda Meir Information Forms are available in the office
at all MPS elementary schools or by request to Golda Meir School
- These forms are completed by the current second grade
teacher and sent to Golda Meir School along with a current report card
and a final report card from first grade
- Writing samples, test scores, work examples and letters
of recommendation may also be sent in order for the staff to determine
whether the student would be a candidate that would benefit from
the challenging and active program in place at Golda Meir School.
Occasionally, a student is asked to come to Golda Meir School for additional
testing, a face-to-face interview or a trial period in a classroom to
determine appropriateness for the program. This helps to insure a proper
fit between a candidate and the program.
Once an evaluation is complete, parents are notified by mail or phone if their child is identified as a candidate. During the MPS 3 Choice Period in January, a 3 Choice form (sample here) needs to be filled out in the child's current MPS school for the child to be included in the random selection for the new 3rd grade class. Please return this3 choice form to Golda Meir – you may send it with your initial application if you wish.
Candidates for 3rd grade that apply after the 3 Choice Period need
to complete Golda Meir Information Forms and send report cards, but do
not have to complete the 3 Choice Form.
Golda Meir School serves approximately:
- 270 students in grades 3rd, 4th and 5th.
- 60 students in grade 6th.
- 60 students in grade 7th.
- 60 students in grade 8th.
Teachers and parents recommend children for the program and applications
are accepted between November and January of the 2nd grade year.
Golda Meir School has a very low attrition rate; the majority of the
students stay through the eighth grade.
Candidates that wish to enroll in grades 4-8 must
complete a Golda Meir Information Form as
well. A 3 Choice Form would
seldom be required because vacancies are rarely posted in grade levels
above 3rd during the 3 Choice selection period.
If more candidates seek enrollment than seats are available, students
are placed on a computer generated wait list after the random selection is completed.
Candidates on the wait list are considered for placement prior to any
applicants that apply after the random selection period.
