Who we are: Now in our 12th year of existence, Milwaukee Sign Language School (MSLS) is a unique, if not the most unique, “language” program in our district. We are one of but a handful of schools throughout the United States that has implemented a bilingual, bi-cultural program and philosophy.MSLS provides a well-balanced curriculum to approximately 550 deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing students in grades K3 through eighth grades. At MSLS children are accepted with all their diversity of race, culture and ability. We believe that all children can learn. To that end, the mission of MSLS is to create a nurturing learning environment, which will promote academic excellence. All children and staff have exposure to and are developing skills in American Sign Language. English and other methods of communication are respected and used to meet the individual needs of the children. Children, staff, and parents, both with and without hearing loss, are expected to learn aspects of Deaf Culture and to grow in an atmosphere of mutual respect for one another. Children are provided with technological opportunities that prepare them for success in the 21st Century. The goals of academic excellence, mutual respect and responsible citizenship are met through cooperative efforts of home, community, and school. Want to know
