What is Manufacturing...?
Manufacturing is the physical or chemical transformation of materials into new products or parts of products. In today’s world, the way this is done is high tech, requires a high level of skill and offers an extremely challenging, varied and rewarding career to those who work in the industry.
Technological advances have meant that the way the industry works has changed significantly over time, as have the careers available and skills required. Traditionally, there was a defined and sometimes limited career pathway.
Today, manufacturing offers a career and not just a job because it involves links to other industries, exciting new fields such as biotechnology and aerospace and many options and opportunities to move into different areas in the future.
What’s more, skilled workers are now in high demand. With technological advances creating opportunities in new fields and jobs requiring new skills, the industry is struggling to produce recruits to keep up with market demand.
