Northwest will field a junior varsity and varsity boys’ basketball team for the 2007-2008 school year. In future years, a golf team, track team, football team and girls’ basketball team will be formed at the varsity level. Students in the middle level grades compete in a wide variety of district sponsored sports events such as flag football, basketball, track and softball. Students with cognitive disabilities compete at the regional and state Special Olympics. Additional teams will be formed in the future.

Northwest Secondary School offers a variety of clubs and activities, such as yearbook, theatre (plays), choir, Spanish Club and Chess Club. Students can also participate in activities sponsored by Northwest’s Community Learning Center. These activities include tutoring, open gym, computer lab time, arts and crafts and cultural field trips. In addition, over 100 youth make up the Young Leaders Service Cohort. These students have been chosen and trained to facilitate the leadership needs of the student population. This is a result of the Character Education adoption at Northwest Secondary School.
