AP Biology

Biology is the study of living organisms and their interactions with their surroundings. Advanced Placement Biology is an accelerated curriculum intended to be equivalent to an introductory biology course at the college level. This course differs significantly from a first year high school biology course with respect to the kind of textbook used, the range and depth of topics covered, the kind of laboratory work done by students, and the time and effort required by the students. Students who demonstrate proficiency on the Advanced Placement Biology exam in the spring may receive up to 5 college credits. All students enrolled in this course are expected to take the AP exam.

To be successful in this course, students must meet the following prerequisites:
• Completion of high school biology course with minimum grade of B
• Completion of high school chemistry course with minimum grade of B
• At least 90% attendance during year prior to enrollment.
• Rating of “proficient” or “advanced” in reading and writing on 10th grade WKCE
