AP Chemistry
AP Chemistry is a fast paced and rigorous exposure to the same chemical concepts
covered in the first two semesters of college chemistry.
Highly motivated students who have a genuine interest in
chemistry will begin the year
with a brief review of the basics, then launch into an extreme
chemistry experience that covers all the topics required
to take the Advanced Placement
test in May. These include chemical kinetics, thermodynamics,
solution and acid-base chemistry, atomic and molecular structure,
equilibrium concepts, gases, bonding, electrochemistry, and
reactions. Students who
enroll in AP Chemistry should have previously demonstrated
a significant acuity in both chemistry and mathematics. Algebraic
skills
are a must.
A basal understanding of calculus principles is recommended.
Assignments and exams will require both insight and intuition
developed by way of
a lecture and lab style that demands complete attention to
this elemental science. Students and their families should
be aware that the College Board charges a fee for the administration of all AP tests, thus making
the need for financial preparation a necessity as well.
