Principles of Engineering
Principles of Engineering is the first of four engineering classes offered at
Riverside University High School. This class is designed to give freshman
students an opportunity to problem solve using basic Engineering techniques.
Principles of Engineering is a year long course that allows students
to discover the multiple disciplines within the Engineering field.
We begin the course by defining Engineering and discussing why Engineering
is important. Topics discussed are: History of Engineering, Disciplines
of Engineering, Technical Writing, Sketching, Mechanisms, Thermodynamics,
Fluid Systems, Statics, Strength of Materials, and Manufacturing Processes.
This course is designed to maximize hands on learning opportunities
through constructing projects using heavy machinery such as drills,
punches, saws, and a new Rapid Prototype Machine. Students will also
learn by means of research, computer lab work and lecture.
Computer Programs taught in Principles of Engineering: Autodesk Inventor, RoboPro,
WestPoint Bridge Builder, MD Solids, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint.
