Willie J. Hickman
Principal

June 2005 marked my appointment as Principal at Sarah Scott Middle School for the Health Sciences.  Prior to coming to Sarah Scott, I taught social studies at Webster Middle School for 10 years and was an Assistant Principal for four years.  I also worked at MEC, Sholes, Riverside and Marshall in the capacity of an Assistant Principal.  Working at different schools has been very rewarding for me.  I learned a great deal from each school and now I am putting it all together at Sarah Scott.

My philosophy of education is that all people can learn. Education is the key to keeping a civilized society. I wholeheartedly agree that learning is a lifelong process and it is good for the soul and the mind.  I believe strongly in discipline and teaching our students and teaching them well.  He who can do for himself need not depend on others to do for him.

Coming up in Mississippi when times were hard motivated me to be the best that I can be.  I use this as a strategy to let students know they can succeed as well.  I am a role model for all students hoping they will do the right thing and use their gifted talents in the right way.  We have some very bright kids; we just need to find a way to extract all this ability and potential from them.  That is a goal of mine and as a Principal, I will do my best to accomplish it.

I graduated from Camille St High School in Louisville, MS and attended Mississippi Valley State University, where I received a BA in Social Science.  I received my Masters Degree from National-Louis University in Education Administration.

Assistant Principal
7th Grade

August, 2006, marks my 20th year with the Milwaukee Public Schools.  Prior to becoming a grade level administrator, I served as a special education teacher and a diagnostic teacher, both at the middle school level.

I received my BS from UW-Milwaukee and my Masters in Administrative/Supervisory Education from National Louis.

I believe that knowledge and beliefs should form within the learner in the classroom.  All children can learn with greater depth and understanding regardless of their culture, race and economic status when teachers set learning targets, criteria for success and evaluate student progress.

I taught Special Education for eight years at Webster Middle School.  I attended Concordia University Wisconsin and earned a Masters Degree in Education Administration.  I have served as an Assistant Principal for nine years.  The position of Assistant Principal is an extremely difficulty one and offers unique challenges everyday.
