Mission

“The mission of South Division High School is to implement a rigorous, student-centered, multicultural curriculum that develops first and second language literacy and is taught through high standards of integrated, thematic instruction to prepare students for post secondary education and employment choices. South Division High School expects all students, families and community members to be active participants in the democratic process and economically interdependent world of the 21st century. We ensure that all students use state-of-the-art technological resources capably, actively and responsibly.”

Dear families and supporters,

image of Principal Maurice TurnerWelcome to South Division High School, where we stand proud of our school community and live our school motto, “Shoulder to Shoulder,” each day. Students, families, teachers and community supporters work together to make South Division a strong learning community that promotes self-confidence, lifelong learning and respect.

South Division students enroll in one of four learning academies. These include the Health Science Career Academy (HS), Media Tech Career Academy (MT), Public Service Career Academy (PS), and the 9th Grade Academy.

The recent development and implementation of these academies has enabled South Division to transform our school and educational infrastructure. Students are given the opportunity to pursue their individual interests in a small school setting while reaping the benefits of attending a large high school. Students may take different educational pathways, but they are always a part of the South Division family.

South Division celebrates a global environment. Students from more than dozen countries have graduated from South Division and used what was learned in the classroom to become productive, responsible adults. Our school community sets a tone of acceptance and respect. Not only are students taught to value the unique perspectives of their peers and to respect cultural differences, but they are also given the opportunity to advance their foreign language skills. South Division’s bilingual program is the largest in the state of Wisconsin and is recognized as one of the best.

Because our world is becoming increasingly globally connected, South Division strives to keep pace with technology. We have eleven computer labs (two are mobile) and a distance learning classroom. Students have a variety of opportunities to learn advanced technology skills, which benefit them as they enter college and the workforce.

Out of the classroom, students have the opportunity to join one of many sports teams or participate in dozens of extracurricular activities and programs. Our athletics program equips students with respect for their school, their teammates and themselves. South Division coaches model good sportsmanship, team unity and humbleness, no matter what the score. Extracurricular opportunities such as National Honor Society, Student Council and School Newspaper, give students roles that require responsibility, honesty and integrity.

The South Division staff works endlessly to motivate students to reach their full potential and to develop strong character. Our staff is qualified and professional, with teachers holding advanced education degrees and boasting years of experience. We are also grateful for our dedicated parents and the community organizations that support the efforts of our students. We cannot stand alone and we rely on families and outside organizations to contribute to the education of our young people.

If you have further questions or would like to take a tour of South Division, please call our school office at (414) 902-8300. We look forward to hearing from you and giving you an inside look at the South Division community. Go Cardinals!

Sincerely,

Maurice Turner, Principal
