High Schools

MPS High Schools are continually undergoing a great deal of change to meet the evolving of Milwaukee’s students and families. MPS has developed a Small High School Initiative aimed at building schools of 400 students or less. Each small high school has a unique educational focus aimed at personalized education that targets students through relevance, rigor and relationships.

In addition to the new small high schools, traditional high schools still have a strong presence within MPS. Some traditional high schools now have entrance requirements. Larger high schools offer a variety of extracurricular activities including boys and girls sports, debate, forensics, interest area clubs and much more. Each high school has an online profile that makes it easy for you to research its unique mission and approach.

Keep in mind that all MPS high schools:

• Are focused on high school graduation.

• Prepare students for college or technical and vocational training.

• Provide resources and internships to give students options after graduation.

• Serve as foundations for students to develop personal values and become productive and responsible citizens.

• Implement MPS Learning Targets to ensure that each student meets or exceeds state standards as a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior.

• Have the same number of school days, whether they are on the year-round or standard calendar.

• Have the same Rights & Responsibilities for students and parents.

• Are equipped to serve students with special needs.
