Greetings parents, guardians, students,
and committed members of our
community.
I am Derrick Rogers, a.k.a. Baba (Swahili for father), and it is my pleasure as principal to introduce you to Transition High School. In early 2007, "outside the box" thinking educators Jennifer Wilson and Marty Lexmond dreamed of a school that offered opportunities to deliver the best of two worlds: online instruction and social/political/cultural awareness education. They envisioned a school where experiential learning, technology, and relevant community-centered supports would intersect to create a deep, empowering, and radically transformative learning experience. Well, that dream has become a reality. In March of 2008. we opened our doors to our first students and families. Transition High School provides a school culture and learning environment that allows students to recover from past mistakes and have life-affirming opportunities restored to them. Upon entering the THS atmosphere, families, students, and their advocates will immediately feel the love and warmth of our community, the strong and positive energy, and the high expectations and hope we have for their future. Our staff is committed to academic excellence as well as the development of responsible, critically thinking citizens committed to being agents of positive change in their communities. Informed by best practices research in online learning and the psycho-social development of at-risk adolescents, our staff has developed a rigorous and innovative academic setting that prides itself in forming edifying relationships with youth and challenging them to reach new levels. I invite you to browse our website to capture the essence of who we are and visit the enrollment section to learn more about the admission process. To request more information or schedule a visit, please contact (414) 212-2670. Sincerely, Baba Rogers |
