Transition High School integrates a culturally responsive exploratory curriculum known as R.O.C. "Cypher". This series of lessons and workshops is designed for students to develop a conscious understanding of the social, political, and value-based realities that impact their world view. Some of the lessons and workshops R.O.C. explores includes: The Psycho-Social Effects of African Enslavement The Evolution/History of Hip Hop Culture The Destructive Elements of Capitalism and Globalization "Kill Them Before They Grow": Exploring the 4th Grade Failure Syndrome "The Cradle to Prison Pipeline": Mass Targeting, Miseducation, and Criminalization of Black Youth "Bridging The Gap": Class, Faith-Based, and Cross Generational Conflicts in the Black Community Exploring Popular Culture Through Media Literacy Through examination of these and other critical adolescent life issues, THS students become equipped to take responsibility for personal choices and transcend systemic obstacles to their success. |
