The Violence Prevention Program (VPP) is a team of MPS teachers and school psychologists who work collaboratively with schools to implement research-based programs addressing the violence that is prevalent within our schools and community.
As part of the Department of Psychological Services, under the coordination of Dr. Audrey Potter, the VPP has served K-12 public schools in the city of Milwaukee since 1988.
The VPP offers several research-based social skill, anti-bullying, classroom management, and conflict resolution curriculums and supports individuals and schools in the implementation of these programs. The activities of the VPP are focused on
specific objectives including increased student achievement, decreased behavior problems, teacher skill development that meets the needs of the district's student population, and the development of measurement tools that can identify areas of
success as well as need. Our programs also work well within the 3 tiers of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative within Milwaukee Public Schools.
Members of the violence prevention program believe in the following mission:
Schools are communities where:
People have the right to feel safe
People are empowered to learn and make a difference
People are committed to the well-being of children and seek to understand them better
