“In 1996 I earned my bachelor’s degree in Education from Alverno. That same year, I began my teaching career. In 2004, I received my master’s degree in Educational Technology from Cardinal Stritch.
Currently, I am a participant in a graduate level science education program entitled Project BEST which focuses on increasing science content knowledge and incorporating more research based instruction into the classroom. It is my desire to not only weave this education
into my classroom but to continue my profressional growth and earn a Doctorate in Urban Education. I have always enjoyed working with children. My earliest job was babysitting my younger sister and brother. I was the oldest of six children so there was always someone who need to be looked after in our house. My next job was teaching swimming and gymnastics at the YMCA while I was in high school. I decided to pursue education in college because of the fun I had teaching at the YMCA. As an elementary teacher, I experience great happiness as my students discover that they are able to read and write.
Students enjoy my classroom because it is designed to help them learn. We have a meeting area, where students and I review math and reading concepts daily.I also have six learning centers where children practice math and reading skills in small groups. Students have access to the exceptional technology in my classroom on a daily basis. There are computers, LeapFrog LeapPads, a cassette tape player to listen to books on tape and a SmartBoard, which allows students to experience interactive learning activities as a group. Hands-on learning is a center theme of my teaching and my classroom reflects this approach.
My students should know that I love to learn. I have been going to school ever since I went to kindergarten at Lincoln School in Cudahy, Wisconsin. Currently, I am taking classes to earn a second master’s degree from UW-Milwaukee. I am part of a project that focuses on improving science education in elementary classrooms.
My favorite thing about WCLL is the staff! There are so many exceptional teachers in this school who are dedicated to the students who attend WCLL. If you come to this school willing to work hard, you will learn!” |
