WCLL Parents

image of

With the knowledge that a student’s education takes place both at school and at home, WCLL strives to engage families in the education of their children. By showing support and encouraging children to achieve at their highest potentials, families can give students the extra push they need to succeed. In order to ensure that families stay involved, WCLL commits to the following.

Freshmen Orientation

Each July, a freshmen orientation is held. The WCLL staff and administration shares academic expectations and behavioral expectations with students and their parents/guardians. Information is also provided regarding volunteer opportunities, pre-college programs, community support resources and the WCLL education plan.

School Governance Council and Title One

By attending School Governance Council and/or Title One meetings, parents are given the opportunity to participate in important school decision-making at WCLL. The administration relies on the input from parents and families for important decisions concerning curriculum, staffing, academic and behavioral expectations and budget.

Educational Activities

Parents are encouraged to participate in family events scheduled throughout the school year. Such events include: Middle Breakfast Forum, Donuts with Dad, Muffins with mom, Title One district sponsored conferences and financial aid informational meetings.

Communication

Parents are kept up to date on their child’s progress through report cards, alert letters and parent/teacher conferences. Conferences are held at both south and north side locations to accommodate transportation needs. Additional conferences may be scheduled when requested.

Through the use of the school newsletter, parent quick phone link and the school Web site, parents can remain aware of school and community activities/resources. The newsletter provides information as well as strategies that help families assist their child through positive parenting and learning techniques that help students attain academic proficiency goals.
