Business & Community Partners

Here are our business and community partners and how they support Washington High School of Information Technology.

United Water provides numerous paid internships for our students in the summer between their junior and senior years. This partner has also provided mentors for the robotics project and continues to support the pre-engineering program. United Water has secured funding for a summer robotics class for our students at MATC and provided scholarships for students to attend environmental science camps. They also offer job shadowing, field trip opportunities and classroom career speakers. Jane LeCapitaine, United Water's community relations leader has been named National Academy Foundation — Academy of Information Technology Business Champion of the Year, 2005 for her exemplary efforts in advancing connections between United Water, Milwaukee area businesses and WHS of IT.

Northwestern Mutual influenced the design of the computer specialty program at WHS over 25 years ago, which has evolved as the nucleus of WHS of IT. Providing internships in computer operations, classroom speakers, mentors, job shadowing and field trip opportunities for our students, training for staff and strong financial support for innovative Washington programs, Northwestern Mutual closely connects with WHS of IT.

GE Healthcare began its partnership with WHS through the FIRST Robotics program. GE Healthcare provides engineering mentors and major financial support for Washington High School students participating in the FIRST regional robotics competition. GE engineers worked closely with our students in designing and building robust robots to compete in the rigorous and exciting FIRST regional competition in Illinois in March 2004 and 2005.

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) offers summer robotics and engineering courses for our students and provides strong mentorship in the engineering area as well as information technology programs. MATC also offers staff training courses in many varied application areas, including Photoshop and Illustrator.

Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) supports WHS of IT students in our robotics and pre-engineering component and offers students the opportunity for student-to-student mentorships through college visits.

Stratagem Inc. has provided an innovative curricular connection, in which the company's regional director of e-learning worked with our students and staff on a Web site development project over a six-week period.

Manpower Inc. plays a key role in developing and organizing classroom speakers who emphasize employability skills and career readiness. This partner participates in our IT Career Day program.

Johnson Controls shows our engineering students how the company is a world leader in the engineering field and offers speakers for our IT Career Day program.

Rockwell Automation provides classroom speakers on career and employability skills topics in the field of IT.

UW Whitewater offers a college day on campus for our IT students and input to the school through the advisory board.
