Student achievement as measured by MPS, state and
school-based assessments, have
see-sawed during the past several years. We are very proud of the achievements of many
of our current and former students, and wish to showcase a few in this section of our
website.

Pedro Colon was a Spanish-dominant student in a bilingual classroom at
Wisconsin Avenue School. He became bilingual, and received a law degree from UW-Madison, after earning his BS
degree at Marquette University. His mother, Elsa Monclova (in the photo above), is a bilingual teacher on our staff. |

three-year ballet scholarship student with the Milwaukee Ballet School. Both now attend Morse Middle School for the gifted
and talented. Other students in their class were outstanding celloists & ballet students. |

UW-M String Academy of Wisconsin. Pasia was a "straight A" student throughout her years at Wisconsin Avenue School.

nation-wide National Association for Bilingual Education
(NABE) essay contest.

Debra Walton was the leading actress in a
play, "Mississippi Delta" presented in Milwaukee, and has performed on Broadway stages. While a student at Wisconsin Avenue, she performed on our stage.
She visited with us in a school assembly and encouraged students "to follow their
dreams."

James Wright was a Wisconsin Avenue School
"Eagle" basketball player. He was the starting center at Vincent High School for four years. It is very unusual for a high school freshman to be a "starter" on any varsity team. James was fortunate to be a member of a well-coached and talented team, that won the state championship three of his four years, losing in the finals in March, 2000, in James' senior year. James is now a star on the UW-M Panther basketball team. He won a game for the
